Kalimpong, June 12: Those who want to spend a quiet vacation in the hills, away from crowded tourist spots, can now pack their bags for Mongsong, 15 km from here.

The DGHC tourism department has sent a proposal to the Centre to open a resort there.

Bimal Gazmer, the DGHC tourism area manager of Kalimpong, said: “We have sent a proposal for a resort at Mongsong to the central government. We have also selected the site — the ruins of Jalsa bungalow. We expect to receive the green signal soon.”

The project, which is estimated to cost around Rs 4 crore, includes a two-storeyed building and six cottages on a five-acre plot. The assistant engineer of Kalimpong Engineering Division, Yogesh Pradhan, said: “The project will include a restaurant, a recreation hall and a conference hall. VIP accommodations will also be there.”
