KALIMPONG, June. 20. — The Kalimpong branch of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) have called-off the indefinite strike in all the three stations of Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidlaya (UBKV) at Seed Farm, Dalapchand and Pedong since 14 June.
After discussions with the registrar of the university, who yesterday settled the matters at the Circuit House. The general secretary of the GNLF branch committee, Mr Pakash Dahal said the strike has been postponed.
“ The registrar has confirmed that the demands placed by the GNLF will discussed further upon in the executive council. Hence we will further analyse the situation”, Mr Dahal said.
Having placed demands to the registrar, Mr Dahal said, “We have condemned the appointments of three scientists at KVK which has been done by the authority concerned but violating norms of university”. The re-interview of group (d) and (c) staffs alleging that Xerox copies of the questionnaires were favoured for certain candidates were also requested. “We want the UBKV to establish a separate interview cell only for hill zone, UBKV at the RSS, Kalimpong in the near future as earlier done by the BCKV, Mohanpur for the appointment of non-teaching staffs” , he said.
Significantly the GNLF has also exposed a total of thirty-six posts lying vacant at the UBKV. “ They should be filled with locals immediately”, he added. “The points will be placed to the higher authority of the university for necessary decision for subsequent approval”, the registrar Md Safair Rahman has assured to the GNLF.
GNLF branch president Mr Dawa Prakhrin, general secretary Mr Roshan Rai and were also present during discussion.
