KALIMPONG, June 19. — Dismissal, apart from inquiry, is likely for few Congress supporters in Kalimpong for their alleged comments against sitting MP from Darjeeling Mr Dawa Narbula who is also the president of the Darjeeling district Congress committee.
Seniors in the Darjeeling district Congress (I) committee have criticised the comments made by a section of Congress leaders here against the Darjeeling Congress (I) MP Mr Dawa Narbula who is also the president of the Darjeeling districts Congress committee In a meeting of the members of the Darjeeling (hills) district Congress Committee, it has been held that a few Congress supporters have been trying to damage the reputation of the party. A press release issued here even condemned the meeting held between the frontal organisations of the Congress (hills). “We were not informed about any such meeting,” Mr Basheer Ahmed of Congress said.
“Those who have organised the meeting without any proper permission should be dismissed from the party,” the release states. “Seniors of the Pradesh Congress have decided to enquire into the reckless remarks made by a few party workers and they could also be dismissed from the party,” the release states.
However, a few Congress leaders have proposed the name of Mr KB Chettri for the post of DDCC president after having held that Mr Narbula had been too busy attending various programmes organised by both the PDF and GNLF.
A member of the district committee, Mr Pravin Gurung, claimed that this is unnecessary and a cheap move by some Congress supporters. “Politicians of both the Opposition and ruling approach him because he represents the hills and has been dealing with the present tribulations. It’s a fact that he has also been lifting the hopes and aspirations of the party’s supporters here,” he said.
Terming the complainants as, “irresponsible”, acting president of the DDCC Mr Nakul Chandra Chettri said, “None of them are now members of the district committee”. According to Mr Chettri organisational elections to the district committee have already been held in March. “They have just been trying to create
confusion and misguiding the masses and nothing more,” he said. Incidentally, even Mr KB Chettri — whose name had been proposed for the chair of president said, “I have totally been unaware about it. Congress members haven’t consulted me for placing my name for the post.”
