Teesta bridge collapses

Darjeeling, June 25: A temporary bridge over the Teesta river collapsed this evening, reports our correspondent.
The bridge near Ramvi, about 30 km from Siliguri, collapsed at 6.30 pm when officials of the National Hydel Power Corporation were dismantling it. The corporation’s chief engineer, R.K. Verma, and other officials were supervising the dismantling.
Officials of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council said they have deployed Rapid Action Force personnel to rescue the labourers dismantling the bridge. B.K. Parajuli, the corporation’s public relations officer said they were yet to ascertain if there is any casualty.
