BSNL users on call waiting

Despite guidelines set by Telephone Regulatory Act of India (TRAI) — an apex body of telecommunication in India — which demands for refund of any kind of security deposit within sixty days, the BSNL here is taking as long as five years for such refunds. Former SDO ‘in the dock’ over tree felling

KALIMPONG, Aug. 28. — A former sub-divisional officer here has been accused of chopping off trees on the compound of SDO bungalow in Justice Biswas Road here. As per the complainants, the former SDO, Dr AK Yadav, had requested the divisional manager of the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation (WBFDC), for the permission to cutting of down two trees. The tree are panisaj and pine.
Dr Yadav said that both the trees were about to fall down and are posing a threat to the lives of the habitants in and around the locality. (more…)

St Augustine’s dons the diamond cap

Locals HOPE for a cleaner Kalimpong

The Himalayan Organisation for People Education (HOPE) — a newly formed organization — will now be collecting waste scraps and bottles for collecting funds, after which it will be installing dustbins in and around the town. Power-driven to bring light

Kalimpong, Aug. 24: Meet 26-year-old Bharat Dhakal, an achiever in his own right, who has brought light to the remote village of Lingsey, about 60 km from here. Lingsey does not even have proper road links with the rest of the world, but thanks to Dhakal, 13 houses in the village now have electricity. Dhakal has managed to set up a mini hydel power plant to generate electricity by tapping water from a nearby stream. (more…)

GNLF union begins strike at UBKV

Darj to be a farming model
