Kalimpong, Nov. 9: The civic body here is all set to improve the road conditions in this small hill town. The repairs, which are overdue for quite some time, will begin from tomorrow, simultaneously on three roads.
Kalimpong Municipality chairman C.K. Kumai said: “We will start work on three road stretches from tomorrow. We had sent proposals to the government and the money has been sanctioned. We have already received Rs 22 lakh from the Centre’s Integrated Small and Medium Town scheme for these stretches.”
With this money the civic body plans to broaden the R.C. Mintri Road on an average by two metres, carpet the stretch from Dongdara to Tirpai bazaar and repair Harizan Road. The last two roads have not been carpeted for 15 years and 10 years respectively.
“Widening of R.C. Mintri Road is needed for the smooth flow of traffic in the town,” Kumai said. “Once it is broadened, the road will have two lanes along with parking space on both sides. We could not broaden it earlier for lack of funds,” Kumai explained.

Finally something is being done to improve the roads in my dear old Kalimpong. It will be a pleasure to find a safe and wide R.C. Mintri road and hopefully all the other roads will see improvements in near future.
