KALIMPONG, Dec. 7. — The signing of the MoU in New Delhi yesterday has only led to more political uncertainly with the GNLF(C) stating that a constitutional amendment will be impossible, and the AIGL digging out claims by Mr Subash Ghisingh of having opposed sixth schedule.
“No, these provisions are applicable only to Assam’s backward tribal population, but we are not tribals. We will not be satisfied with a union territory status because such a status is bestowed on people who are uncivilised, very backward, whose men go naked and women bare breasted. But we are advanced people, we are civilized. Look at me, I wear a three-piece suit and a tieâ€, this is what the DGHC caretaker and GNLF chief Mr Ghisingh had precisely maintained when asked about the possibility of certain special constitutional provisions — like those available in the sixth schedule for the tribals of Assam and some other areas of the North East. KALIMPONG, Dec. 4. — The spirits of Russian family of Roerich’s perhaps were revived with the official opening of Crookerty house as the “International Cultural Centre.â€
The revamped Crookerty, which opened today, was once the resident of Helena Ivanovna Roerich, a renowned Russian philosopher, writer and a scholar. Helena, who died in Kalimpong on 5 October 1955, had spent the last seven years of her life in this house. (more…)

Dec. 1. — Forty three years after they had left for Tibet in the wake of the Indo-Sino (1962) aggression, the family of Tashi Norbu and Thupden Rinzing are back, to claim their property. They however were shocked to find out most of their property has either been sold or occupied.
As per authentic property documents the above two, Tibetans, had purchased the site now known as the ‘Maa Villa’, at Primtam Road on 3 June, 1957 from its Chinese owner named Maa Yu Sun (the villa notably was named after him). (more…)
