Kalimpong, Dec. 30. — The All India Gorkha League (AIGL) will be publishing the full and final version of the Memorandum of Settlement signed at the tripartite meeting of 6 December in New Delhi in their mouthpiece, ‘The Gorkha.’
Asserting that the document will be published in about a week’s time, the general secretary of the Kalimpong branch committee of AIGL, Mr Tribhuwan Rai, termed it as an AIGL initiative to build awareness of the masses about the DGHC set-up. The Gorkha Hill Council, Darjeeling will be set up under the sixth schedule of the Indian constitution.
The Gorkha, which is a monthly of the AIGL, has been the party’s organ since its inception in the 1940s. Meanwhile, doubting that the ‘sixth schedule’ is only an issue to mobilise common support, political observers have said that the Gorkhaland Bill, if placed in the parliament, will only need a simple majority. — SNS
