PDF plans hill youth convention

Kalimpong, Oct. 31: Five months after its defeat in the Assembly elections, the PDF has decided to make a comeback in the area by galvanising the youth.
Some time next month, the front will organise a youth convention here as a prelude to spreading its wings in the interiors of the hills where, as the election results had shown, its presence is negligible. “All the PDF constituents will be meeting here on November 8 to decide on the date and agenda of the convention,†senior PDF leader, Norden Lama, told The Telegraph.
Apart from gaining political relevance in the hills, observers feel the opposition alliance also needs to define its position in the wake of the recent activities of the United Gorkha Revolutionary Front. “We believe in achieving our goals through democratic means,†said Lama.
Once it is through with the convention, the front plans to work towards spreading its network in the villages and gardens of the hills.
“Since we had very little time in our hands before the last election, we could not work in the villages and gardens. This ultimately proved costly for us,†said Lama, who had unsuccessfully contested from the Kalimpong Assembly constituency.
