Kalimpong, April 3: If the 24 young trainees of Kalimpong Football Academy and games teachers of 10-odd schools in the subdivision are to be believed, the interaction with American sports consultant Mike Lee over the last few days has taken them one step ahead in their sport career.
Lee, along with Bhutanese national coach Khade Basnet, has been conducting a special coaching camp for both budding footballers and local coaches at the Mela Ground here since March 26. Lee, on his part, is quite impressed with the quality of talent in the hills. “From what I have seen, the talent is very good. Maybe, one thing they lack is exposure,” he told The Telegraph. “Dividing the training programme according to age groups would help (in maximising potentials).” The camp is going to end tomorrow. Kalimpong, April 4: This Easter, the highlight will be on Youth Of Passion, a Bangalore-based gospel band, which is going to perform at Town Hall here on Saturday.
Hosted by Mt Carmel School, the programme, Songs of Season, will feature the seven-member group for the first time in the town. The members include music students of a theological school, New Life College, in Bangalore and two boys from the hills — Ujwal Lama from Darjeeling and Moses Mangranti from here.
“Our school’s choir will also present some songs at the event. Besides, some of our students will perform dances to add colour to the occasion,” said Sabrina Sodemba, the principal of Mt Carmel. Brother Kamal Sundas will deliver the Good Friday message.
Apart from the musical event, churches of various Christian denominations here will observe Good Friday in their respective ways. Though the accurate figures are not available, a conservative estimate pegs the number count at around 30,000.
Members of the Roman Catholic Church on Relli Road will take out a religious rally through the town on Friday. Bearing crosses, the rallyists will recreate scenes of crucifixion and the death of Jesus.
Easter Sunday, which celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, will be observed with special prayers and carols.
