Siliguri (PTI): There will be no bandh in Darjeeling hills till Dussehra festival to promote tourism and help people enjoy the Durga Puja, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurung said here on Friday.

Gurung said there would be no activities in the hills which might hurt the “festive mood”. Hill people were free to worship idols, which was earlier prohibited by GNLF leader Subash Ghisingh, he told PTI.

Hoteliers encouraged with this announcement have already started considering measures to attract visitors during the next tourist season that starts from September 15.

The major tourist attraction of Darjeeling, the toy train which remained out of track for a few months following GJM bandhs and a series of landslides would be back from the first day of September, the Director of Darjeeling Himalayan Railways, Subrata Nath said.
